Educational Objectives
In order to balance the requirements of mechanical industry and promote the level of mechanical technology, the Department is devoted to educate students in operating skills and theoretical knowledge, so that the need of related industries and future trend could be met.
The Department contains two professional groups: manufacturing and automobile engineering. The educational objectives are:
1. In the manufacturing group, we focus on computer-integrated manufacture, CAD, CAM and the application of automatic technology. Students are expected to learn the professional techniques of automation and computerized production management.
2. In the automobile engineering group, in order to meet the practical requirement of modern automobile industry and offer new information on automobiles, the students in the automobile group are expected to specialize in both design and repair.

Features of Development
We've combined the factors of key courses and laboratories, professional specialties of the faculty and the distinct features of local industries to develop the features of department as follows:
1. Emphasize training in mechanical-electrical integrated technology.
2. Train students in mechanical manufacture and automatic techniques.
3. Focus on the process and fruitful results of graduate practical projects to cultivate students' creativities and operations.

Curriculum
Consistent with the features of development, we have planned four groups of selective courses to meet the requirements of students and to integrate the techniques of network and computer applications into mechanical engineering. The group categories of courses are as follows:
1. Mechanical-Electrical Integration: automatic control, applied electronics, sequence control, intelligent control, etc.
2. Mechanical Manufacturing: applied CAD/CAM, non-traditional manufacturing' anti-engineering, CIM, etc.
3. Mechanical Material: modern material properties, new methods of experimentation, non-destructive testing, advanced materials, etc.
4. Automobile Engineering: knowledge and technology of modern automobiles.

Faculty
All faculty members have extensive experience and excellent research abilities. They have published many papers and works. The professional specializes of faculty members are described below:
The Department has 32 teachers, including 3 professors, 12 associate professors, 9 assistant professors and 8 lectures. Among the faculties, 26 teachers have Ph.D. degrees. In addition, the Department has three technicians to assist with teaching and administrative affairs.

Facilities
The Department occupies about 10,000 square meters and provides modern equipments for students' practical courses. At the present time, the Department contains 27 rooms for lab, practical shop, and specific teaching, including hops of machinery, metal sheet, forge, mold, bench, welding, precision casting, automobile inspection, automobile electrical system, and automobile engine, laboratories of material testing, mechanism, thermal engineering, fluid flow, electrical machinery, pneumatic and hydraulic control, CAM/CNC/CIM, heat treatment, micro-processor, programming logic control, and precision measurement and testing; 3 specific teaching rooms of computer (II for CAD/CAM), and 2 mechanical drawings rooms.
To complement the development of the university program's technical courses and automobile group, new laboratories will be extended in the future to include: non-destructive testing, precision manufacturing, mechanical-electrical integration, sensor applications, computer integrated manufacture electrical system of automobiles, and exhibition rooms of automobile projects.

Future developments:
1. The Department will apply to set up the inspection facilities for occupational
certifications, and the students will be encouraged to take part in the examination to raise practical abilities and to meet the requirements of government policy.
2. A number of courses will be conducted by distance learning to promote initiatives and achieve fruitful teaching efforts.
3. The Department will encourage and help the faculty members to apply for projects from the government and industries to enhance research capacity.
4. We will continue to apply for extending graduate school of mechanical-electrical engineering
