Background
The Department of Hospitality and Tourism Management was established in September 2002. It's well recognized that the 21st century is the era of the service industry, however, the business around tourism, restaurant and hotel plays the most important part in the service industry. The professionalism of tourism and hospitality management staff is the key element to evaluate the modernization and internationalization of the nation.
Today, Taiwan is in the transitional stage to uplift its competitiveness in order to become the Asian Operation and Logistic Center, To cultivate professionals in the field of hospitality and tourism management is the critical issue to be accomplished. Business related to tourism, restaurant and hotel surrounded in Taipei City has desperate needs for relevant professionals. Therefore, the establishment of this Department came just in time to upgrade the image of this industry and to fit the practical needs of the nation's economic development.

Objective
1. Promote the professionalism of hospitality and tourism and become a part of the economic development in Taiwan.
2. The course design is focused on professional, international and digital information in order to provide a comprehensive education to students in all aspects of hospitality and tourism background.
3. Combine practical training with classroom theory to assist students in gaining an understanding of the skills and techniques, as well as develop the international vision.
4. Cultivate students with local tourism, custom and cultures in order to pursue professional ethics and service spirit.
5. Emphasize both on languages (English or Japanese) and computer skills, and train students to have independent thinking.

Characteristics of Development & Curriculum
Followed by the reformation of our Institute, this Department has to take the connections between the existing college and latest 4-year college programs; faculty's expertise; cooking labs, and the contents of courses at the Restaurant management Department into considerations and come up with the following development directions for 4-year college programs:

1. Our Tourism and Hospitality program provides students with an array of exciting academic opportunities as well as the marketable career preparation. A total of twelve- month work placement in Year two and three is a vital part of this course, allowing students to relate their academic knowledge to industrial practice.
2. Build up international co-ops, internships, and practical training in order to broaden the vision of learning. Through the sister schools' relationships, enforce the communication and enhance the learning opportunities.
3. Emphasize the training of practical case studies; increase students' abilities of independent thinking, comprehension and data integration.
4. Explore the features of local tourism, strengthen the cultural concepts and historical monument education, so that the cultural assets can be preserved.
According to the structure of our well-planned courses, The 4-year college program, 128 credits required before graduation, out of these, 72 have to be requisites set by the Department, 28 for co-requisites, the rest would be selective credits. Courses are designed based on the practical needs for social and business developments. In order to increase the students' professional interests, according to their attributes, we shall classify this Department into two programs: Tourism and Leisure Service Management. Restaurant and Hotel Service Management.

Faculty and Facilities
Excellent teaching staff graduated from famous universities and received their master's and doctor's degrees with working experiences are recruited.
Facilities needed for teaching culinary arts will be shared and provided by the Department of Restaurant Management, which include a Chinese cooking kitchen, a western cooking kitchen, a restaurant and a bakery. A tourism information center, a hotel room division, as well as a cooking demonstration room, a Travel Agency and .a exhibition center classroom .a Illustration classroom. a survey research classroom shall be established
