Welcome to DSHR website. DSHR staff, faculty, and students are committed to developing professionals and programs that engage individuals and their diverse global communities to embrace and live active, healthy lifestyle.
DSHR is “the place” to study, appreciate, understand, and experience movement. Graduates from our department will be able to work in variety of setting: outdoor recreation, commercial, corporate, community fitness program, cardiac rehabilitation, golf club, teachers in K- 12 schools, and outreach program.

History
Department of Sport Health and Recreation (DSHR), in 1993, was originally established, which offers four-year undergraduate study program. In accordance with the ideals of cultivating of the life qualification and developing recreation, DSHR emphasizes on the fostering professional in sport health and recreation and enhancing the humanities and culture. In the near future, DSHR will expand and establish in continuing education and graduate study programs.

Objective
In addition to in-depth studies in sport health and recreation, efforts are made towards the following areas:
1. Training the professionals for the physical fitness and wellness management.
2. Training outstanding professionals for designing leisure activity.
3. Providing the concepts of health care and leisure activity for the citizen.
4. Focusing on the development of recreation resources.
5. Offering diverse curriculum and study program for the people who are interested in sport health and recreation.
6. Integrating on both educational theory and practicality and promoting well-developed leisure activity for the citizen.


Curriculum and Instruction
The courses focus on integrating theory and practicality in equal attention. In order to meet students’ needs and the tendency of social demand, DSHR offers diverse curriculum, including sport theory, health management, recreation courses, and physical fitness theory. By providing rich curriculum content and learning environment, the department; moreover, keeps establishing the relations with sport and recreation industry. In this case, students will have many practicum opportunities.
We have 5 full professors, 4 associate professors, one assistant professor, and one instructor.

Goals and Further Development
1. Developing practicum and internship programs, and combining both theory and practicality.
2. Working collaboratively with businesses and sport industry, and popularizing community service.
3. Assisting students to get the professional certificate.
4. Improving department curriculum, and fostering outstanding professionals in sport health and recreation.
5. Enhancing qualification of department faculty.
6. Carrying out the concept of volunteer outreach program in order to serve the citizen
