Founded in 1971, Taipei City University of Science and Technology originally went by the name of Kuang Wu Industry Junior College.

     The school was reconstituted as Kuang Wu Institute of Technology in 2000 and was later renamed as Technology and Science Institute of Northern Taiwan in 2006.

     In 2012, as a result of outstanding educational achievements, the school was upgraded to a university, Taipei City University of Science and Technology, abbreviated as TPCU hereafter.
